The purpose of a pre-employment psychological evaluation, above all, is to ensure that a potential employee is able to safely and effectively perform a defined job.
Who may be required to have an evaluation?
The most common occupations to mandate psychological evaluations are most often used for police as well as other public safety applicants. Jones-Wood Psychological Associates, Inc., can certainly perform pre-employment psychological evaluations for a wide variety of occupations. These include:
- Police officers
- Firefighters
- Air traffic controllers
- Dispatchers
- Sheriff’s deputies
- U.S. Secret Service
- Clergy members
- Probation officers
- Nuclear power workers
- U.S. Department of Defense
Federal and state law mandate employers to maintain a workplace environment that is safe for their employees. A fitness for duty evaluation is typically requested to determine whether an incumbent employee has a psychological condition or impairment that may render them unable to safely or effectively perform their job. As a matter of fact, it may relate to their ability to perform one or more essential job functions. Likewise, it may also relate to whether they pose a direct threat to themselves or others.
For example, our forensic experts have performed fitness for duty evaluations for:
- Universities
- Fire departments
- Medical schools
- Corporations
- State licensure boards
- Ohio Board of Nursing
- Ohio Board of Psychology
- Office of Bar Admissions-Supreme Court of Ohio
- Police departments
- School districts
- Municipalities
- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
For both pre-employment psychological evaluations and fitness for duty evaluations, our forensic psychologists use objective psychological test data. In particular, we utilize the MMPI-3, PAI, and/or IPI-2. However, other instruments may also be used to identify specific neuropsychological issues or other mental health concerns. The objective basis for our opinion is not merely speculative, but derives from multiple sources. In particular, this includes clinical interview, credible third-party report, psychological testing, and/or other reliable evidence.
How can we help with your Occupationally Mandated Psychological Evaluations?
At Jones-Wood Psychological Associates, our forensic psychologists are more than qualified to perform all of the above evaluations.
